Vacation is the one time people can let loose and have fun. Then, it is too easy to also let go of stiff manners and such. Whether on the road, at sea, in the air, or already resting in the hotel, it is important to keep following simple etiquette and put the best foot forward in an unfamiliar place.

Be polite especially when traveling with a group. Be prepared and carry with you medication against dizziness or sanitary bags. When asking for directions, start with a greeting and end with a "thank you." If you are upset for some reason, relax and keep your cool.

Children can become noisy and irritable when bored. If you are the parent of a disruptive child, calmly but firmly tell the child to settle down. If you are not, resist the temptation to throw the child or his parent a scornful glance; it will not do you any good. Also resist telling the child to behave; that is the parent’s responsibility.

Whether you are on flight or on the road, keep your voice down. Other passengers might be trying to rest or relax for the rest of the trip. If media players are allowed, also turn the volume down; your earphones are there so only you can hear the music.

When trying to retrieve an item from your luggage, it helps to know how you packed. It does not leave a good impression on you if you end up taking out your portable vaporizer if what you are looking for is your camera. Otherwise, if there is anything you might need, place it in a smaller bag you can carry with you at all times.

When staying at a hotel, although hotel personnel are responsible for tidying up your room, you ought to do your part by organizing your own things to avoid misplacing them. Also be careful to not leave an electronic item like a vaporizer or camera plugged in while you are away for a long time.

Dispose of your waste properly. In the hotel, trash bins are regularly cleared for your use. If you cannot find garbage cans along the way, keep your trash until you find a garbage can to toss them in. When going home, double check your things—put away your travel documents, camera, vaporizer or anything else you brought along. The hotel would be eager to have you back next time.
